Wedding Phrases & Traditions

Have you ever wondered where some phrases come from? We use them all the time in our everyday language, but I have to say that most of them, I don’t understand. Of course the key to understanding is to know where these phrases originate. Different cultures use varying symbols to reflect different traditions. Back in the day, did people really tie a knot when they got married? And just why do you have to have something old, something new, borrowed, and blue? Well I don’t have all the answers, but I did find some interesting information. Here are some popular wedding phrases and traditions, and what they mean.

I recently went to a Chinese wedding reception and was culturally surprised by the delicacies that I sampled. It was a nice change from the usual banquet menu at most weddings. Living Well & Scrapbooking

There’s a quote that I’ve heard many times: “Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll be able to enjoy it a second time.” I think that’s absolutely brilliant. Firstly because of it’s simple truth, and secondly because no one, or at least only a few wise individuals, understand the impact of their lives in the moment that they are living it. And I guess in some ways that’s a good thing, can you imagine if you had to consider the possible consequences and impact of each and every action and thought you had? That would be overwhelming. But it is important to be conscious – to know that what you are doing, how you are acting, and what you are thinking, are in marriage to the life you want to live.
